Welcome to Siam University’s website. As President, I am aware of each undergraduates desire to be future ready for their dream career. With this in mind we have developed courses that create academic insight but also strengthen our students’ interpersonal skills.

Locally, we are proud that a team of Siam University fourth-year students won first prize in the annual Student Project Challenge 2020, organized by Sustainable University Network for Thailand. Their sustainable project on “Making Compost from Aquatic Weed Waste at Sripradu Community” was an example of social innovation which can be used to solve real world problems that benefit the well-being of communities. 

Globally, Siam University ranks in the top 5 of the most sustainable universities in Thailand and #93 in 85 countries, according to the latest ranking of UI GreenMetric World University Ranking. “Think Freely. Work Wisely.” และเป้าหมายสู่การพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน ที่มหาวิทยาลัย ถือเป็นแนวความคิดที่สอดคล้องกับการดำเนินชีวิตปัจจุบัน จากกิจกรรมที่เราทำภายในมหาวิทยาลัย และในชุมชนรอบเขตภาษีเจริญอย่างต่อเนื่อง นักศึกษามหาวิทยาลัยสยามสามารถชนะเลิศการแข่งขันในการทำโครงการเพื่อการพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืนระหว่างมหาวิทยาลัยยั่งยืนในประเทศไทยในปี 2020 ” ปุ๋ยหมักจากขยะน้ำ เพื่อชุมชนศรีประดู่” และมหาวิทยาลัยสยามยังได้รับการจัดอันดับจาก UI GreenMetric ในปี 2021 ว่าเป็น TOP 6 ด้านการพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืนของมหาวิทยาลัยในประเทศไทย และอันดับ 103 ของโลก ด้วยคะแนนรวม 7,750 โดยมีคะแนนเป็นที่ 1 ของประเทศไทยด้านการศึกษาและการวิจัยเพื่อความยั่งยืน และเป็นอันดับที่ 19 ของโลก

มหาวิทยาลัยสยามกับการน้อมนำปรัชญาของเศรษฐกิจพอเพียง

“เศรษฐกิจพอเพียง” เป็นปรัชญาที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระบรมชนกาธิเบศร มหาภูมิพลอดุลยเดชมหาราช บรมนาถบพิตร พระราชทานเป็นแนวทางการดำเนินชีวิตแก่พสกนิกรชาวไทย ได้รับการพิสูจน์ว่าสามารถทำให้คนไทยและสังคมไทยรอดพ้น และสามารถดำรงอยู่ได้อย่างมั่นคงและยั่งยืนภายใต้วิกฤติและความเปลี่ยนแปลงครั้งสำคัญต่างๆ นับตั้งแต่วิกฤตการณ์การเงินในเอเชีย พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๐ การก้าวสู่ยุคโลกาภิวัตน์ ยุคพลิกผันทางเทคโนโลยี รวมถึงยุควิถีปกติใหม่ที่เกิดจากสถานการณ์โควิด ๑๙ ในปัจจุบัน
ประกอบด้วย ๓ ห่วง กับ ๒ เงื่อนไข
๓ ห่วง คือความพอประมาณ ความมีเหตุผล และภูมิคุ้มกัน หรือการเตรียมตัวให้พร้อมรับผลกระทบและการเปลี่ยนแปลงด้านต่างๆ ที่จะเกิดขึ้น
๒ เงื่อนไขในการตัดสินใจและดำเนินกิจกรรมต่างๆ ให้อยู่ในระดับพอเพียง คือ เงื่อนไขความรู้ และเงื่อนไขคุณธรรมที่เน้นความซื่อสัตย์สุจริต ความขยันอดทน สติปัญญา และการแบ่งปัน เพื่อให้เกิดความสมดุลและพร้อมรับการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างรวดเร็วและกว้างขวางทั้งด้านสังคม เศรษฐกิจ วัฒนธรรม และสิ่งแวดล้อม

มหาวิทยาลัยสยามตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของปรัชญาดังกล่าว ในด้านนโยบาย ได้น้อมนำปรัชญาของเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงมาเป็นหลักการสำคัญในการดำเนินกิจกรรมและโครงการด้านต่างๆ ทั้งในด้านงานบริหาร งานวิชาการ งานวิจัย และงานบริการชุมชน ในด้านวิชาการ มหาวิทยาลัยสนับสนุนให้นำแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงไปสอดแทรกในรายวิชาในทุกระดับการศึกษา นักศึกษาปริญญาตรีจะได้เรียนรายวิชา “หลักปรัชญาของเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงเพื่อการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน” ที่เป็นรายวิชาหลักในหมวดศึกษาทั่วไป โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ที่จะเสริมสร้างชุดความคิดความยั่งยืน (sufficiency mindset) นอกเหนือจากการให้ความรู้ ทักษะ และทัศนคติที่เกี่ยวข้อง นักศึกษาที่ลงทะเบียนเรียนจะต้องลงพื้นที่จริงเพื่อศึกษาและเสนอแนะแนวทางการน้อมนำปรัชญาของเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงมาใช้ในการดำเนินชีวิตและพัฒนาสังคม

ในด้านการวิจัย มหาวิทยาลัยสยามได้ให้การสนับสนุนโครงการต่างๆ อาทิ โครงการวิจัยเรื่อง “แนวทางการพัฒนาพิพิธภัณฑ์เสมือนบนฐานการมีส่วนร่วมของชุมชน: กรณีศึกษาการน้อมนำปรัชญาของเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงเพื่อเสริมสร้างความเข้มแข็งทางวัฒนธรรมของชุมชนในเขตภาษีเจริญ” โดยได้ทำการศึกษาชุมชนคลองลัดภาชี และชุมชนเลิศสุขสม โครงการวิจัยดังกล่าวเป็นงานวิจัยเชิงปฏิบัติการแบบมีส่วนร่วมและได้นำเสนอการน้อมนำหลักปรัชญาเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงตามบริบทของแต่ละชุมชน ได้เห็นการ “ระเบิดจากข้างใน” การบูรณาการและการนำหลักการ ๓ ห่วง ๒ เงื่อนไขไปประยุกต์ในการพัฒนาทั้งด้านเศรษฐกิจ สังคม วัฒนธรรม และสิ่งแวดล้อมภายในชุมชนอย่างสมดุล

ส่วนในด้านความรับผิดชอบต่อชุมชน มหาวิทยาลัยสยามก็ได้ดำเนินโครงการต่างๆ เช่น โครงการพื้นที่สุขภาวะ โครงการธนาคารเวลา และโครงการออมสินยุวพัฒน์รักษ์ถิ่น รวมทั้งให้การสนับสนุนกิจการนักศึกษาดำเนินโครงการจิตอาสาเพื่อเปิดโอกาสให้เรียนรู้การน้อมนำปรัชญาของเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงในพื้นที่จริง

การดำเนินโครงการดังกล่าวได้ทำให้ประชาคมชาวมหาวิทยาลัยสยามทั้งนักศึกษา คณาจารย์ และผู้บริหาร ได้มองเห็นคุณค่าของปรัชญาฯ และแนวทางการปฏิบัติตามปรัชญาของเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงทั้งในระดับมหาวิทยาลัย การพัฒนาสังคม และการดำเนินชีวิตของบุคคล อีกทั้งยังนำไปสู่ความเข้าใจคำสอนอื่นๆของ “พ่อ” เช่น “เข้าใจ เข้าถึง พัฒนา” และความเชื่อมโยงกับเป้าหมายการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน นับเป็น “ของขวัญ” ที่พระราชทานแก่ปวงชนชาวไทยและชาวโลกอย่างแท้จริง

The Practices of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy in Siam University

Sufficiency Economy Philosophy (SEP), the Royal initiative development model of Thailand, bestowed by the late His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX), has been proven to be the guiding principle that enables the Thai people and Thai society to live sustainably amidst the 1997 Asian financial crisis, rapid globalization, disruptive technology, and the new way of life after the Covid-19 pandemic. Inspired by the Buddhist notion of the middle path, the very core of the SEP consists of three components: moderation, reasonableness, and self-immunity or prudence, with two accompanying conditions: knowledge and morality or virtues. Its ultimate goal is to put into practice traditional social values of adopting the middle path for appropriate conduct by the population at all levels of society (individual, family, community, and nation) and create a balance in the development of the economy, society, culture, and environment.

With the recognition of its importance, SEP has become one of the guiding principles in Siam University’s policy and all of our administrative, academic, and community engagement activities. Academically, we encourage our staff to integrate SEP into the courses offered. Siam University provides a core course in “SEP for SDGs” in the general education program for our undergraduate students. This course aims to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes towards SEP, and nurture a “sufficiency mindset.” Enrolled students are asked to initiate SEP-related projects, giving them insights into the philosophy and how it’s implemented into developing their lives and society.

Siam University also promotes SEP through our research activities, such as a project on “Guidelines to develop a community-participated virtual library: a case study of the implementation of SEP in Phasi Chareon district.” This participatory research explored how members of the Klong Lad Pachee and Lertsuksom communities applied His Majesty’s “inside-out” approach, and integrated the three components and two conditions of SEP in their economic, social, cultural, and environmental context for a balanced, stable, and sustainable lifestyle.

As for community engagement activities, Siam University encourages our students and staff to participate in projects, such as, the “Healthy Space,” the “Time Bank,” and the “GSB-SU Youth for Local Development.” Additionally, members of our student affairs department and the student union regularly initiate and participate in voluntary work related to SEP.

All these initiatives have given S.U. Students, staff, and administrators appreciation for the SEP values and the insight of practical implementation of its philosophy at the university, social, and individual levels. They also lead us to understand other teachings of His Majesty, to “Understand, Approach, and Develop,” and how this philosophy can be a powerful vehicle for achieving the SDGs. SEP is thus truly the “GIFT” His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has passed down for all Thais and citizens of the world.

充足经济哲学理念在暹罗大学中的实践

充足经济哲学（SEP）是已故普密蓬-阿杜德国王陛下（拉玛九世皇）授予泰国的皇家倡导的可持续发展模式，在1997年亚洲金融危机中、经济全球化的快速发展中、技术中断的国际形势中，以及Covid-19大流行后的新生活方式的探索中，已被证明是可以有效促使泰国人民和泰国社会保持可持续发展的指导原则。受佛教中庸之道概念的启发，SEP的核心包括三个部分：适度、合理、谨慎，以及两个附带条件：知识条件和美德条件。它的最终目标是将传统的社会价值观付诸实践，让社会各阶层的群体（个人、家庭、社区和国家）采取适当的行为，并在经济、社会、文化和环境的发展中创造一种平衡。

由于认识到其重要性，SEP已经成为暹罗大学各项政策以及行政、学术和社区参与活动的指导原则之一。在学术上，我们鼓励我们的员工将SEP纳入所提供的课程中。暹罗大学在本科生的通识教育课程中开设了 “可持续发展目标的SEP “的核心课程。这门课程的目的不仅是强化有关SEP的知识、技能和态度，而且也是为了培养 “充足经济的理念”。学生需要设计并参与SEP相关项目，从而深入了解这一理念，并在生活和社会中实施发展下去。
